Slowburner is the instrumental solo project of Élvio Rodrigues, a composer and producer originally from the Portugese island of Madeira an now based in Lisbon. From his first EP a little over three years ago to last year’s 10-week Sunday mornings are for piano project, Élvio has kept the piano mostly in the forefront while gently integrating ambient sound design and field recordings. This summer, however, he brings us a lush new soundscape of a different sort while expanding his work in the realm of video.
In the case of “Nebula” Élvio reversed his normal way of working, creating the video first and then using it as inspiration to create a song to fit. Indeed, from simulating the ‘wingbeats’ of the creature traversing the screen to the gorgeous layers of synths bathed in a phosphorescent glow of ultramarine, it is a mesmerizing production.
The audio single for “Nebula” will be available beginning July 3 on the Slowburner Bandcamp site.
