ALBUM PREMIERE: I Have Absolutely Nothing to Say, so Listen by Maciej Sadowski

Maciej Sadowski is a double bass player, composer and session musician with experience across a wide swath of genres with a special emphasis and passion for jazz. As a performer he has appeared with various ensembles on stages across Poland and Europe and participated in a number of international projects. As a composer, Sadowski works in film as well as on his own projects and is notably a the graduate of workshops led by Oscar winner Jan A.P. Kaczmarek (Finding Neverland). All of these diverse interests and talents come into play on his forthcoming new album I Have Absolutely Nothing to Say, so Listen, a kaleidoscopic journey that references jazz, classical, pop, folk, ethnic, and electronic music created in collaboration with a number of artists from around the globe.

The unorthodox title is a reference to Sadowski’s creative process which he describes as one in which personal experiences naturally turn into music in his head only to find echoes of specific events and associations that take time to reveal themselves. It is a process he seeks to draw his audience into as they listen.

I find echoes of personal events and feelings in my music. I would like to allow my audience to experience a similar search—without suggesting any methods of interpretation or themes. I aimed for a universal artistic message. Despite cultural differences, geographical distance, or different experiences, people share the same emotions which can be found in the material. This universal presentation, combined with the universal chaos that we have been experiencing over the last two years, gave final shape to this album.

Blending strings, synth, and drums with trumpet, electric guitar, and piano into a fluid mosaic of sound, the album resonates across a wide range of contrasting moods. Sometimes the shift happens between tracks as when the carefree joy of opening track “Paraglider Ticket” immediately turns somber with the brooding “Ladybug Drones” which follows. In others, the shift evolves within the piece as heard in the rising swells of “March 2020” or when the plodding bass lines of “Believe in Nothing” open out to a powerful and surprising full vocal piece featuring French rapper Lario Nowhere. But, in the spirit of the album’s title – enough words. Have a listen for yourself in this exclusive streaming premiere in advance of its release tomorrow.
