PREMIERE: We Are Soaring by IKSRE

Phoebe Dubar is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Melbourne/Naarm. As a practicing sound alchemist, Dubar facilitates sound baths and conducts training workshops both locally and abroad. Under the hopeful moniker of IKSRE (I Keep Seeing Rainbows Everywhere), however, she engages in alchemy of a different kind by creating music that features field recordings from across the Australian landscape woven into an ethereal blend of ambient drones, strings, synths, and layered vocals. It is a vibrant mixture that draws on both neoclassical and pop motifs to provide Dubar with a potent conduit for emotional expression.

On her forthcoming new album abundance, the emotions that are flowing are decidedly positive ones. The title refers not to worldly goods but to the “the richness within ourselves” that Dubar wishes to suggest can empower a more fulfilling life. That positivity permeates each song, the result of a deliberate effort to craft an album “filled with breezy, sunny sounds”. The spark of its inspiration traces back to New Year’s Eve 2022/23 when her husband reintroduced her to Behind the Sun (2000) by British musician Chicane, an album which lit up the airwaves, clubs, and dance floors in Europe and Australian at the turn of the millennium.

If you want to bask in some of that positivity before the release of abundance in a few weeks, check out this exclusive premiere of “we are soaring”. Like a radiant afterglow of the late 90s/early aughts prog & trance music it calls back to, the track that uses binaural recordings, Moog synths, Himalayan singing bowls, viola, and vocals to break gravity and create “a euphoric sonic experience” that will leave you elated.

abundance will be released 2 February 2024 on the Constellation Tatsu label.
